US M1948 South Vietnam Invisible ERDL Camo ARVN Trousers size medium, waist 34" and inseam 30". No rips or tears and all buttons present and zipper working. I suspect one of the waist adjustment tabs are missing.
The original M-1948 pattern was only used by the United States during trials but was later issued to Vietnamese forces. Throughout their service lives and beyond, servicemen and collectors have given each pattern several pseudonyms that can aid us in identification and discussion.
The South Vietnam Invisible ERDL camo uniform, introduced to ARVN forces around 1965, features a unique variation of the US M1948 ERDL pattern printed exclusively on heavy cotton sateen fabric, likely sourced from the United States. Although tested by the US government in the early 1960s, this pattern was never officially adopted, and surplus fabric was subsequently supplied to South Vietnam. Its distinctive color combination—medium brown and olive green organic shapes with black “branches” on a yellowish-green background—creates a blending effect at a distance, earning it the nickname “invisible ERDL.” This uniform was predominantly worn by the Vietnamese Rangers, or Biệt Ðộng Quân.
