Our Story at Bateleur Militaria

Albert van Zyl’s story and the founding of Bateleur Militaria is one of passion, dedication, and a deep respect for military history. Originally from South Africa, Albert is a veteran of the Angolan Bush War, having served with the South African Defence Force (SADF) and also volunteered with the South African Police. His experiences during this time inspired a lifelong appreciation for the men and women who served, as well as the tangible reminders of their sacrifices.

For years, Albert traded in SADF collectables under the name Camocorp, building relationships within the South African military community and sourcing authentic memorabilia. His dedication to preserving history eventually led him to establish Bateleur Militaria, a small family-owned online shop based in Bee Branch, in 2025. The shop focuses on SADF items and other unique military memorabilia, aiming to make collecting accessible and affordable by cutting overhead costs.

Bateleur Militaria is more than just a store; it is Albert’s mission to preserve and share military history for future generations. The website, Bateleurguns.com, offers distinctive pieces such as the 323rd Logistical Command Shoulder Patch and the A Co 2nd Battalion 12th Special Forces Group ODA 1255 Patch & Scroll. Each item tells a story of service and sacrifice. The collection also includes literature like "Alone at Dawn," which explores the life of Medal of Honor recipient John Chapman, serving as both an educational resource and a tribute to heroism.

Albert continues to travel to South Africa to source original collectables, maintaining his strong ties to the military community. His dedication ensures that every piece reflects authenticity and meaning. Bateleur Militaria’s mission is to keep history alive, inviting collectors and enthusiasts to engage with the legacy of those who have served.
